A little about us
The Art, Graphic Design and Photography Department at Ravens Wood school provides a varied, exciting and creative opportunities to students aged 11 - 18. We have 2 large Art rooms, a photography suite with 2 darkrooms, and a Graphic Design suite equipped with Apple Macs and industry standard design software.
We pride ourselves in offering a varied and exciting range of Art, Craft and Design options for KS4 to explore, and focused workshops provided throughout the 3 years of GCSE study give pupils the experience of refining and developing new skills and techniques that transcend into the curriculum. Critical studies forms an essential part of pupils' Art comprehension and therefore GCSE classes take part in an annual gallery visit. This activity enhances and supports coursework.
At KS5 we offer Fine Art, Graphic Design and Photography linear A level - over 2 years our students explore creativity through the study of both traditional and contemporary creativity with the aim of being conversant with the work of other times and cultures whilst becoming independent creators able to communicate their own ideas. Our students work with traditional and new media exploring the visual elements of Art, developing confidence, competence, imagination and creativity. Students are encouraged to develop their knowledge of materials, practices and technology within their chosen subjects, developing their experimental, analytical and documenting skills and their understanding of art, craft, design and image in history and in contemporary society.
